What do you know about gum disease? Did you know that this disease could actually lead to several problems if it isn’t addressed? For example, gum disease may actually cause swollen or red gums, recurrent bad breath, shifting teeth, and tooth loss. However, are you aware that not getting enough sleep could actually leave you more vulnerable to this issue?

As you might already know, we recommend that people get at least eight hours of sleep every night. However, some individuals may only need seven hours of sleep a night. Still, if you don’t receive enough sleep, your body could have an inflammatory response. This actually leaves you more susceptible to gum disease and might also leave you more vulnerable to serious illnesses such as heart disease.

Sadly, if you fail to get enough sleep, you could actually be as likely to have gum disease as people who smoke. However, aside from getting enough shut-eye, you should also try to brush and floss your pearly whites regularly if you’re interested in preventing this problem. You should also set up an appointment with us so we can help you recognize dental issues.
