A Toothache Requires Our Immediate Attention

A toothache in one or more teeth, or a feeling of pain or pressure in your gums should always be seen as a serious cause for concern. While you might be able to find some temporary relief by rubbing oral analgesic on your gums, you should always have Northridge Dental Group examine the tooth to determine the best course of treatment.

If you suspect a recent trauma like a fall or blow to the face may have caused the toothache, it could have damaged the internal structures the tooth in question. If you have blood and debris in your mouth you can rinse it away with lukewarm salt water. This might also soothe wounded tissues.

If the toothache pain isn’t linked to any obvious trauma, and increases or it starts to radiate out from the gums, it could be a sign of infection or advanced tooth decay deep in the root of the tooth. This is even more likely if that tooth has recently developed a cavity, an unexplained fracture or a lost filling.

If the toothache was caused by trauma and there is swelling in your lip or cheek you can hold a cold compress to your face for 15 minutes at a time.

If you have a toothache, you should call Northridge Dental Group as soon as possible at 818-886-6100 to schedule an appointment.
