Are your teeth beginning to look dull and flat? Have you been told that you snore or grind your teeth loudly while you sleep? If so, you may want to talk to your dentist about the possibility that you have bruxism.

Bruxism is an oral health disorder wherein you grind and clench your teeth, usually while you sleep. Unfortunately, because the vast majority of cases of bruxism occur when you sleep, you are often unaware that it is happening. This can frustrating to patients and can make diagnosis difficult. However, there are plenty of waking signs and symptoms to watch for!

Damaged teeth, headaches, and damaged dental restorations may indicate bruxism. If you have damage to the insides of your cheeks when you wake up, or your teeth are beginning to look dull and flat, you may have bruxism. Watch carefully for these signs and symptoms, and don’t be afraid to call your dentist at Northridge Dental Group.

If you find you have increased tooth sensitivity, or if you often wake up with a sore jaw, you may be suffering from a related disorder known as temporomandibular joint syndrome, also known as TMJ. This can also make it difficult to open or close your mouth when you wake up.

If you suspect bruxism or TMJ disorder, speak with Dr. Shahdad Arami for a possible diagnosis and treatment options as soon as possible.  Be sure to set an appointment with Northridge Dental Group at our dentist office in Northridge, California.
